I've long forgotten where I originally found these ads. I was holding onto them in the hopes of collecting enough to post a theme, but that's not happening and I thought they were too good to wait any longer.
The first has so many contradictions going on I can't made heads or tails of it (well, maybe tails judging by where the husband is hitting his wife.) It starts by asking, "Do you still beat your wife?" and then says underneath "Maybe you never should have stopped." Say what? Was there a consumer demographic out there of abusive husbands who stopped? And the copy calls the act a "manly art." It seems so disturbing I wonder if it's real. The other weird part is the fact that the husband isn't hitting his wife, but spanking her. Judging by the look on her face, she clearly is enjoying it.
Talk about a slogan that's sure to raise some eyebrows. And seeing all this between an actual pair of legs - well, I'm speechless.
Lastly, we have a telephone for losers who can't get dates. I'm guessing this ran in Playboy and other girly mags during the 80s. Speaking of fun between your legs, I'm trying to figure out what this lusty redhead is sitting on - coins? Leaves? Whatever they are, they appear to be stimulating her. The inset image of the guy holding up a statue of a naked woman up against his face is hardly sexy, but seems pathetic and ridiculous. That headline is priceless, though.
