I had a funny feeling that today marked the one-year anniversary of director John Hughes' death. Kind of eerie that I was correct. So in honor of Hughes, today's Two Forgotten Friday Favorites are two songs from his films: If You Leave by Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark (which was from the movie Pretty in Pink), and Don't You Forget About Me by Simple Minds.
By the way, how sad was it during this year's Oscars when actors from Hughes' films paid tribute to him? That was my favorite moment of the award show. Thanks, Mr. Hughes, for making movies that my generation could relate to and for letting us fans know that we were not alone when it came to teenage struggles in the 80s.
